2Pe 2:1-3 But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves. (2) Many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of the truth will be maligned; (3) and in their greed they will exploit you with false words; their judgment from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.

Recently I was watching a video produced by a mega church in the Bible belt of America. The pastor preaches the prosperity gospel and calls their church an evangelism church. They say that those who stand on doctrine are haters of the “new way.” This “new way” has drawn tens of thousands of gatherers each week to this once tiny church of about 100 members. Recently this pastor secretly built a $1.8 million home for he and his family from money that has been gained from tithes, offerings, book sales, etc…

Peter tells us in his letter that men like this are all around us. They prey on us and exploit their followers for their own greed and gain. They speak false words and heresies and deny the truth of the true Gospel. Beware of these type of men. Their destruction is inevitable and their ways will not go unpunished. They deceive for gain and their followers will be left without a true understanding of the saving power of Jesus Christ.

Today I am convinced that the only way they will see their greed and self righteousness is if those who know the Lord and the power of the Holy Spirit begin to pray. Pray for their salvation. Pray that they will turn from their greed and sin. Pray for a revival of truth in the hearts and minds of their followers. But most of all, pray that the enemy does not allow your own walk to be sidelined by one of  these wolves in sheep’s clothing.

Lord, protect my heart and mind from false teachers. Their convincing message resembles truth but I know that only you and your Word are truth. Please bring a true revival in these churches for your glory and the salvation of many souls. Amen
