I am breaking away from the Ephesians study again today because I feel a real burden for the men and women who these verses in 2 Peter refer to that I know in my own life. May the Lord draw them to himself and give them a heart of repentance.
2Peter 2:20-22 For if, after they have escaped the defilement’s of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them. What the true proverb says has happened to them: “The dog returns to its own vomit, and the sow, after washing herself, returns to wallow in the mire.”
Today I am struck with a broken heart for those you and I know who have tasted the goodness of the Lord, participated in his kindness, and have fallen away to the enticements and temptations of the world. These are not people who are truly born again, rather, those who have a knowledge of Christ and have turned from their sin but returned back again to their old sinful way of life.
Peter, as well as seeing it personally myself, informs us that after one escapes the entanglements of the world and returns, it is going to be worse for them than it would have been if they had never experienced the way of righteousness in the first place.
Many of us have friends and family members who have gone back to old destructive behaviors and it feels like there’s nothing we can do. I know the pain that this causes as we have recently seen a family member come back to Christ.
During the past 20 months we prayed that the Lord would deliver this person from his destructive lifestyle. We prayed for a miracle and God granted it. We have seen the Lord grant the heart of repentance and the things that he has learned about the Lord have been returning to his mind in such a way as to fill him with a burden for the lost souls around him.
On March 16, (that is 3-16) he was blessed to lead a friend to Christ. That moment for him was far more exciting than anything he had pursued in his sin. Watching the hand of the Lord work in the lives of those around you is such an amazing blessing.
Today we pray for the lost friends and family who have seen the goodness of God but have never experienced the life changing power of the Gospel. They have tasted and seen that the Lord is good, but have allowed the destruction of the enemy to wreak havoc in their lives. We pray for the Power of the Holy Spirit to touch their lives in such a way as to lead them to repentance.
If you have a family member who you would like us to pray for feel free to reply to this email and we will add them to our prayer list. We have seen the Lord perform miracles in this area and we want to be a part of the miracle He will give to you in your family as well.
Be Blessed,
Keith
