2Timothy 2:11-13 The saying is trustworthy, for: If we have died with him, we will also live with him; 12 if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us; 13 if we are faithless, he remains faithful—for he cannot deny himself.
One of the first things we should remember about the Word of God is that it is trustworthy. It is something we can count on when we run into challenges and trials. It is the rock we can build our lives and ministry on. The thing Paul is teaching Timothy in this verse is that if, or I might add when, we endure in our suffering we will reign with Christ. We are assured our position with Him through our perseverance.
Conversely, if we deny Christ through our suffering, he will deny us. Jesus said in Matthew 10:33 – “Whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my father who is in heaven.” This isn’t about having a challenge in life and questioning God about it, it is about being faithless until the end to the point of denying our Savior. In spite of the denial, God still remains faithful, not to the salvation of the person, but to himself – for he cannot deny himself.
So how do we persevere? Paul tells us in Colossians 1:11 that it is God who strengthens us to endure with patience in order for us to live for God in a worthy manner. When we are living in Christ and His Power we are able to endure all challenges with joy, giving thanks to the Father for our eternal inheritance in light.
Tap into the Power of Christ today as you face the challenges that come your way. The enemy came to kill, steal, and destroy, and though he may try to wreak havoc in our lives, we have the Power of Christ in us to defeat him at his game.
May you see Him today as you walk forth in faith.
