Daily Bible Verse ~ Ephesians 3:20-21

Eph 3:20-21 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, (21) to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Paul concludes his prayer for the Ephesian saints with a doxology. To him who is able to go far beyond anything we could ever imagine according to the power at work within us. I believe we, as believers in Jesus Christ, have power beyond anything we could ever imagine. We have the power to overcome temptation, to overcome fear and anxiety, and to defeat the schemes of the Devil. Greater is he who is in us than he who is in the world.

The power of the Spirit in us was not deposited there for our selfish gain or use. It has been given to us for a purpose. As we walk in the Spirit of God, we begin to see victory over the sin in our life. We see the Lord’s hand move in ways we never would have dreamed or imagined. And we are able to love others as Christ loves us.

Paul reminds us in this prayer that it is all for a reason, to bring glory to Him in the church and in Jesus Christ. We are justified, sanctified, and glorified not for our benefit alone, but for us to bring glory to God alone. As Paul states earlier in chapter 1, we were saved for the praise of His glorious grace. Knowing I am predestined for adoption into the family of God brings joy to my heart and gives me the freedom to do what I was created to do, worship, serve, and bring glory to God.

God has always been jealous of His glory. Here are some verses today that remind us that God is passionate for His own glory.

  • For my name’s sake I defer my anger, for the sake of my praise I restrain it for you, that I may not cut you off. Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tried you in the furnace of affliction. For my own sake, for my own sake, I do it, for how should my name be profaned? My glory I will not give to another. (Isaiah 48:9-11)
  • Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the end of the earth, every one who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory. (Isaiah 43:6-7)
  • I made the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah cling to me, declares the Lord, that they might be for me a people, a name, a praise, and a glory. (Jeremiah 13:11)
  • Jesus endured the cross for the glory of God: “Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour?’ But for this purpose I have come to this hour. Father, glorify your name.’ Then a voice came from heaven, ‘I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again’ (John 12:27-28).
  • So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God (l Corinthians 10:31)
  • Whoever serves, [let him do it] as one who serves by the strength which God supplies – in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. (l Peter 4:11)

There are dozens of verses that show God’s passion for his glory. Today, as I think and meditate on the Word, I am praying that God will reveal to me the the breadth and length and height and depth of His glory.
