Eph 3:4-7 When you read this, you can perceive my insight into the mystery of Christ, (5) which was not made known to the sons of men in other generations as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit. (6) This mystery is that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel. (7) Of this gospel I was made a minister according to the gift of God’s grace, which was given me by the working of his power.
What is the mystery of Christ? Paul explains it in verse 6 as the Gentiles being fellow heirs with the Jews, an argument he explains thoroughly throughout the first few chapters. But more than the mystery itself, God placed it into the hands of Paul to be the minister of it, or the “servant” according to the gift of God’s grace.
We all have been given this mystery. Christ crucified and risen again for the salvation of all people is a message that is for all of us to proclaim. It is not simply the responsibility of pastors, or missionaries, or Bible teachers, but it is for simple folk like you and me. And the mystery, though it may seem complex, is really quite simple. In our minds we think we need to challenge opposition with eloquence and lofty speech, but the message can truly be presented by remembering the ABC’s.
- A ~ ADMIT that you are a sinner in need of salvation.
- We are guilty of sin. Romans 3:23
- We deserve to die. Romans 6:23
- One day we will be judged by the Lord. Hebrews 9:27
- We cannot save ourselves by good works. Titus 3:5
- B ~ BELIEVE the truth of the gospel.
- The Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died for our sins on the cross. 1Peter 2:24
- He rose again from the dead. 1Cor 15:4
- He is the Savior of those who believe in Him. John 3:16, 36
- C ~ CALL upon the Lord.
- Repent from your sins. Acts 3:19
- Ask Jesus to take control of your life. Romans 10:13.
Paul uses some amazing language in the book of Ephesians and often it can be challenging to understand, but the message of the mystery of Christ, though hidden from the Jews for ages, has been revealed to us through the Spirit to proclaim to all people, Jews and Gentiles.
Thank you Lord for the gift of salvation through Jesus. Amen
