Eph 6:17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,
As a believer in Christ, we are going to have challenges. Sometimes they will be with people, other times they may be physical or emotional, but regardless of what comes our way we are certain that in the end it will never take away the promise we have of the ultimate victory of salvation. No matter what battle we face, we have the assurance that our name is in the lambs book of life. Paul calls this assurance the helmet of salvation. Knowing that God has preserved us for eternity, covers us, and gives us peace and power over anything that the enemy may send our way. Just as a helmet protects the physical body, the helmet of salvation, or “hope” of salvation as Paul says in 1Thes 5:8, protects our soul.
He describes it this way in 2Cor 4:8-14 We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; (9) persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; (10) always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies. (11) For we who live are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. (12) So death is at work in us, but life in you. (13) Since we have the same spirit of faith according to what has been written, “I believed, and so I spoke,” we also believe, and so we also speak, (14) knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us with you into his presence.
Though the body may be destroyed or we may fall into extreme difficulties, we have the future hope of seeing Jesus face to face. This hope and joy the devil will never be able to take from us through challenges or warfare of the mind because we are covered by this spiritual helmet. Without this ultimate hope of victory there would be no motivation to fight the good fight of faith.
