James 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
This week in Guatemala we spent half our day with an amazing group of men and women on a short term mission trip from Boston visiting a hospital in downtown Antigua. There we dozens of wheelchair bound children, men, and women throughout. I was blessed and amazed at the high level of love and care that they received from their Catholic run organization. The hospital survives solely on donations from private donor’s and many volunteers who sacrifice for the kingdom of Christ serving the “least of these. “
As we were singing praise songs to the small groups of patients, I couldn’t help but ponder this verse.
True religion, as James’s states, is far more than simply showing up once or twice a week to a church service for an hour, rather, it is caring for those in life who are unable to care for themselves. It’s being the hands of Jesus to people who would otherwise be cast out. For me it’s living daily in Christ.
Many have asked me, “Where did you get the name Living Daily In Christ for your blog and ministry?” And the simple answer is, we thought it was not just a good ministry or blog name, but truly a way of life. Living daily in Christ is what James’s calls true religion. It’s sharing His love and following His lead in everything you do. Reaching people, including the difficult ones, for the kingdom of Christ.
Please continue praying as we seek God for direction. He has been ministering to us in mighty ways this week. (He even sent a retired couple from Virginia to encourage us and speak some much needed wisdom into our lives.)
If your in need of prayer, feel free to send us your request. We will be praying much this week and would love to include your requests.
Be blessed,
Keith
