The book of James is filled with so much for us to learn about Christian Maturity. Unlike many of the other epistles, it was not written to a specific church, rather, it is written for all who call on the name of the Lord as believer’s in Christ. Though James addresses the “works” of a believer, he in no way is undermining that our salvation is by faith alone through Christ alone.
James 2:17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
“The purpose of this potent letter is to exhort the early believers to Christian maturity and holiness of life. This letter deals more with the practice of the Christian faith than with its precepts. James told his readers how to achieve spiritual maturity through a confident stand, compassionate service, careful speech, contrite submission, and concerned sharing. He dealt with every area of a Christian’s life: what he is, what he does, what he says, what he feels, and what he has.” (Bible Knowledge Commentary)
James wants his readers to understand that a living and active faith produces good works for the kingdom of God. How we live and interact with others is key to how we reflect Christ in our lives. Over the next couple of months the Daily Bible Verse will be “growing up in our faith” as we take a look at the book of James. Whether you have been a believer for many years or you are new in your faith, James will help us understand how we put our faith in Christ into action…
Be Blessed,
Keith
