John 17:20-21 “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.
The prayer of our Lord Jesus Christ.
John chapter 17 contains the prayer of Jesus as He turns the work of reaching the lost over to his disciples and to all believers who come after them.
As He commissions them, He prays to the Father for unity. That all the believers will be united as one in order that others will come to believe.
Unity is one of the best ways to be a witness to others. Just as Christ was united to the Father, we too are not only to be united to Christ, but with each other as well. Jesus’ heart is that we are so united that the lost will be found in the name of Jesus.
As I think about the heart of our Lord in this section of His prayer, I cant but analyze my own heart. Am I a person that prays for and seeks unity, or do I cause disunity and strife? As I walk with the Lord today, I truly want to be one who unites for the sake of the Kingdom of God.
Lord, help me to be a person who seeks unity with my fellow Christians. I want the way I live my life to bring people into your eternal Kingdom. Thank you for uniting with me and giving me hope in you today. Amen.
