Matt 2:1-2; 11 Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, 2 saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” 11 and going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.
Two thousand years ago the message of Christ was received by a group of wise men in an amazing way. They heard of his coming and they traveled for a long distance and for many days to see him. Upon seeing him they worshiped and gave gifts of high value.
As I think about what that might have been like, I can’t help but wonder how I would respond if such an event occurred today. Would I drop everything, travel for days or even weeks to see the Lord, and then offer him gifts expecting nothing in return?
When we present the Gospel message, we often tell people what they’re going to get from Jesus. We often forget that we are introducing them to the Creator of the universe, the Lord God Almighty. Rather than encouraging them to fall on their face and worship, we talk about how they need to decide if they want to be saved. Somehow we have it backwards…
This Christmas I am reflecting on who Christ is and my response to him. The best gift I can give this year is fully giving my life to Christ as an act of worship in simple gratitude for the amazing gift he gave me… the gift of eternal life with him forever.
My prayer today for you is that you consider the gift Christ has given you. In the hustle and bustle of the next couple of days you will find the opportunity to sit quiet, reflect on the awe of the Lord, and fall down and worship.
Lori and I want to wish you a very blessed Christmas.
