Matthew 5:4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”
This week has been quite challenging when it comes to our pets. We have a spirited toy Australian Shepherd that had to have a tumor removed that we thought we were going to have to put down and a Border Collie that we did have to put down because of an apparent stroke that left him unable to walk. Needless to say, it has been quite emotional around our house lately.
Jesus, in Matthew 5, gives us great comfort. I don’t think he only means a certain kind of mourning, but mourning that produces any form of sorrow in our lives. He assures us that we will be comforted. Another word for blessed in this context is the word happy.
Happy are you who mourn… even if it’s the loss of your 12 year family companion, because the God of the universe, the One who restores all things to himself, cares about your loss and will provide your heart with comfort.
Whatever loss you are grieving today I encourage you to turn it over to Jesus. He will provide you with all the comfort and joy you need to get you through this difficult time.
You were a great companion Champ… you are going to be missed.
