Php 2:5-8 ESV Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, (6) who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, (7) but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. (8) And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
When we think about the things Jesus did on this earth we often say something like, “Well of course he was able to do that, he is God.” But the reality is that Jesus became fully man, just like you and me. He set aside his deity and humbled himself as a bond-servant. I often find my identity in who I am and what I can do, but my true identity comes from being like Christ and made in His image. I am humbled today as I think about the God of the universe being born as a man and dying on a cross to free me from the bondage of sin and death. It isn’t at all about what good I think I can do but is simply about Jesus and His work that was done on my behalf.
Prayer: Thank you Lord for being a God who understands my needs. You went through all the things we go through and you endured it all without sin or fault. There are no words to thank you enough for paying for my sin on the cross. Please help me today to remember what you did and to share with others how amazing you are. Amen
