Psalm 95:3-6
3 For the Lord is a great God,
and a great King above all gods
4 In his hand are the depths of the earth;
the heights of the mountains are his also.
5 The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands formed the dry land.
6 Oh come, let us worship and bow down;
let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!
Do you ever read through a Psalm or other verse in the Bible and create a mental image in your mind of the beauty that you are reading. Today Lori and I were reading in this Psalm and we couldn’t help but discuss the amazing imagery of this.
We discussed that no matter what we are going through, we are always in the hands of the Lord. We can be at the best place ever, high on a mountain top, experience intimate fellowship with Jesus, and we are in His hands. We can be on dry land, maybe even walking through a deserted valley, and yet, we are still in His hands. Or maybe today you find yourself gripped with fear and you are drowning in the sea of despair. Even there you are in His hands.
Lori described an image of God’s hands stretched out. In His hands rested a great mountain flowing down to a long narrow valley that leads to the raging sea. She said these verses make her think about no matter where we are, everything is still placed lovingly in His hands.
The first couple of verses of Isaiah 41 say this:
But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.
God, the One who has created us, will keep us from being overtaken by anything that comes at us. When we are a child of the King, we are blessed to have our lives placed oh so gently into His hands and we are assurred that we will not be consumed.
As the Psalm continues, David’s response is to worship. To kneel before God and recognize who he is and simply worship.
Where are you today? Are you on the mountain top enjoying sweet fellowship with the Lord? Then worship. Are you in the valley or drowning in the sea of anxiety and despair? Then worship…
Lord, help me to remember that you are holding all things together throughh the power of your might. That while one may be in the valley and another on the mountain, you know my place today and you have me right here for your purpose and great plan. May my response in spite of my situations I encounter be to kneel before you, my Maker, and worship.
Have a blessed day,
Keith
