Psalms 121:1-4 A Song of Ascents. I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? (2) My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. (3) He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. (4) Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
One of the reasons I read through the Psalms is that they give a vivid portrait of the full gamut of human emotion and expression. They fill my soul with hope and encouragement by giving account to real life experiences. I see the character of God displayed through the life of the Psalmist. In these 150 writings we find thanksgiving, lament, celebration, remorse, wisdom, help, and hope.
In this Psalm, the writer is answering his own question as he looks to the hills for the protection and guidance from the Lord. He rests in the assurance that the maker of heaven and earth holds onto him so tightly that he will never be moved or shaken. I find comfort in knowing that we serve a God that never grows weary or needs rest. No struggle I encounter is too grand for the Lord.
