Psalms 19:14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.
Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. The Psalmist is ending the 19th Psalm with a prayer from the heart. Not only does he desire his words to be pure and blameless, but he desires that his heart is acceptable in the sight of the Lord as well. It isn’t what goes into a man that defiles him, rather, it is what comes out of his mouth that defiles Him.
Jesus tells us in the Gospel account from Luke, “The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” It is a simple concept… A good seed produces good fruit and a bad seed produces bad fruit. As you seek after the Lord today, do you desire the same prayer as David? Are you willing to cry out to the Redeemer and ask Him to correct your heart and your tongue? David goes even further in the 139th Psalm, “Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!”
Prayer
Lord, search my heart and test my thoughts today as I seek after you. I desire to live a life that is wholly acceptable to you. Forgive me for my ways that are displeasing to you and lead me in the way everlasting. Amen
