Psalms 20:1-9 To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble! May the name of the God of Jacob protect you! (2) May he send you help from the sanctuary and give you support from Zion! (3) May he remember all your offerings and regard with favor your burnt sacrifices! Selah. (4) May he grant you your heart’s desire and fulfill all your plans! (5) May we shout for joy over your salvation, and in the name of our God set up our banners! May the LORD fulfill all your petitions! (6) Now I know that the LORD saves his anointed; he will answer him from his holy heaven with the saving might of his right hand. (7) Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. (8) They collapse and fall, but we rise and stand upright. (9) O LORD, save the king! May he answer us when we call.
At a time when we are in such polarization politically, it is a beautiful reminder that the Lord is on the throne and oversees all of our lives. The Psalms starts out with an amazing model of what should be cornerstones in our own lives; prayer and sacrifice. The personal expression of devotion to the Lord. Thankfully the sacrifice for our lives has been made once and for all in Jesus. He is the sacrifice that atones for our sins and allows us to enter the throne-room of God and have fellowship with Him. In Christ, He will remember our offerings, regard with favor our sacrifices, grant our hearts desires, and fulfill our plans. His salvation is the reason we have our joy.
As the powers of the world struggle and fight, we know that the victory has already been won. Ultimate victory is not found in might, it is found in the meek and humble service to the Lord. Men and women on their knees crying out to God for salvation. No super power, no presidential candidate, and no weapon of destruction will ever be able to take away the victory we have in Jesus Christ. Not only over sin for our daily lives, but over death as well. This gives us the hope and promise of eternity with Him. We trust in the name of the Lord and he will always answer our call.
Prayer
Lord, Thank you today for the reminder that you are the one over all things. We have nothing to fear when we remember that the powers of the world, the principalities of darkness, and the weapons they develop will never bring us victory the way you do. Thank you for securing my name in heaven and that trusting in your name is far beyond any name. Amen
