Psalms 9:9-11 The LORD is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. (10) And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you. (11) Sing praises to the LORD, who sits enthroned in Zion! Tell among the peoples his deeds!
The world and all of its wisdom tells us that the oppressed are to be forsaken. The men and women who are to be honored are the mighty, the powerful, and the famous. But in the kingdom of God, things are different. He is the stronghold for the oppressed in times of trouble. As Paul states in 1Corinthians, God chooses the foolish, the weak, and the low and despised things of the world to spread the Gospel message of salvation.
1Co 1:26-29 For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. (27) But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; (28) God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, (29) so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.
So when you are in a time of trouble and need the power of the Lord in your life, remember that He is our stronghold and fortress and in Him we bring the full power and might of God to a lost and dying world. We shall trust in Him alone for we know that he has not and never will forsake us… and that should bring us to a place of singing praises to the Lord.
Prayer
Lord, help me to praise your name even in the middle of the storms I face. You are my stronghold, my protection in times of need. Lord, help me to rely on you and find all I need in your amazing provision. Amen
